CPA Exam Technology Changes Coming July 2027

Beginning in July 2027, the CPA Exam will transition to a new technology delivery platform, accompanied by changes to the user interface. These changes will require an adjusted test administration and score release schedule.

Here's what you need to know:

Why is the CPA Exam moving to a new delivery platform?

The software that delivers the CPA Exam to candidates in the Prometric test centers is being updated to leverage state-of-the-art technology, allowing the AICPA to continue to support a key asset of the CPA profession, the CPA Exam.

The transition makes it easier to adapt as technology and testing needs continue to evolve.

The new software platform provides enhanced accessibility, an improved processing cycle, a more modernized exam experience for all users, and will allow the AICPA to adapt to future technology enhancements more efficiently.

What happens during the transition?

As with any major technology upgrade, moving from one platform to another requires careful planning.

To ensure all candidate data is processed correctly before launching the new platform, CPA Exam testing will temporarily pause during the transition.

Current target dates include:

  • July 1–11, 2027: CPA Exam testing will NOT be available as the software is deployed.
  • July 12, 2027: Testing resumes on the new platform.

During the deployment period, the CPA Exam will not be available. The pause allows the AICPA to complete processing from the previous testing window, retire the legacy system, and launch the new platform.

If you're planning to sit for the CPA Exam during the summer of 2027, please factor these dates into your study and scheduling plans.
