NEWTON, NJ – Students from Sussex County Technical School and their families recently appeared before the Sussex County Board of County Commissioners to highlight the school’s participation in T-Mobile’s Friday Night 5G Lights competition. Sussex Tech is one of just 40 finalists nationwide and the only school in New Jersey to reach this stage of the competition.

Sussex Tech began its journey among approximately 2,500 participating schools. Through a strong social media presence and enthusiastic community support, the school advanced through multiple rounds, earning $5,000 and $25,000 prizes along the way. The school is now one of 10 finalists in the Eastern Division competing for a $250,000 prize package, which includes a weight room makeover and a $5,000 grant for a student. A divisional victory would advance Sussex Tech to the final stage, where it would compete against three other schools for the competition’s grand prize of $1 million.

During their presentation, the students and families emphasized what this opportunity would mean for Sussex Tech and the surrounding community. The prize money would help improve the school’s athletic facilities and bring the excitement of Friday Night Lights to Sussex Tech. These improvements would benefit not only the football team but also the many other athletic programs that rely on the school’s facilities.

With the current round of voting ending October 25, the presenters encouraged the Commissioners and the public to spread the word and vote daily to help Sussex Tech advance in the competition.

Following the Commissioner meeting, Commissioner Director Space expressed her support for the school’s efforts, stating, “This is an amazing opportunity for Sussex Tech! We have already been hanging signs around the county and we are sharing this information everywhere we can. We will do everything we can to help the school and wish them the best of luck with this competition.”

The Sussex County Board of County Commissioners encourages residents and community members to show their support by voting for Sussex County Technical School. Votes can be cast daily through October 25.
